With the technological support of the MetaIndústria project and the implementation of a private 5G network, Fiocruz successfully overcame a challenge that threatened millions of vaccine doses.

The Challenge: Rapid Failure Detection

Fiocruz faced challenges in promptly detecting failures in the equipment responsible for processing the essential inputs for vaccines.

Before the implementation of 5G technology, occasional machine failures went unnoticed for a period, jeopardizing production continuity and the integrity of the ingredients.

Critical Point: Roller Bottle Rotation

One of the most critical points in the production process was the rotation of roller bottles, which contain essential biological materials for vaccine development.

Any interruption in this movement posed an imminent risk of compromising millions of doses in production.

The Solution: MetaIndústria and the Power of 5G

The solution to Fiocruz's challenges came through the MetaIndústria project, which integrates advanced technologies, including private 5G.

N&DC played a key role in implementing this connectivity solution, in partnership with major technology leaders such as Nokia, Rockwell Automation, and EDGE.

The private 5G network enables real-time monitoring of operations, ensuring a swift response to any detected failures.

Results: 2 Million Vaccine Doses Saved

The successful implementation of 5G at Fiocruz is already delivering significant results.

The solution, part of the MetaIndústria project—an initiative led by ABDI and SPI Integração de Sistemas—has already helped prevent the waste of approximately 2 million vaccine doses, enhancing the safety and efficiency of production processes.
